This time of year is a busy time for Birthdays in our family. It was my daughter’s Birthday recently, so I purchased a Kolette Hall’s 27098 design from the Silhouette Online Store. (just put the number in the search bar in the store.)
This one is pretty similar to the “Sister” card from my last post, but I like the style..so why not, although I did change it up a bit this time. Here’s the original:

Here’s my version, I extended the front panel so it was the same depth as the back panel then added a contrast paper strip and added the “age” button.
With the black backing I needed to add a lighter colour somewhere to write the message. This is what I came up with.
Then, I went crazy with the Black & White Theme for the gift wrapping too – who said “less is more”? 😉

I used the Silhouette Software to design & cut a little custom box for one of the presents we gave her. When I’m not playing with paper and card, I play with metal and I made the little Sterling Silver spoon in a workshop. You can read more about that over on my Metal work blog …..
Have you made this cutting file available? Thank you for your blog, I’ve really been enjoying it. Have you linked your Sihouette software to a laser/plasma cutter for your metal working? I do paper crafting and mixed media, but intricate cuts in metals would be stunning.
Hi Anita,
Thanks for your kind words about my blog.
No, I haven’t made the file available as it’s not one of my own designs – it’s by Kolette Hall and available in the Silhouette Design Store. Design ID is #27098.
No, I haven’t linked my Silhouette software to a laser/plasma cutter. I don’t own a laser, but I have a feeling that a different software would be required if I did, as I think that a different file type would be used. The Silhouette software is great but only allow creations made with it to be saved as Silhouette Studio Files and not in a more universal format!
Your mixed media work sounds great, and I agree, intricate cuts in metal would be fabulous. I have thought about using the paper cutting in my metal work but more along the lines of cutting out patterns to use with the jewellery saw, or for embossing, or stenciling (I did some enamels here: http://www.getsilvered.com/2013/02/cross-over-crafts/)
Thanks for visiting 🙂
