This overlay design is great for when you need a card in a hurry!
Make a cardbase in advance and add the overlay with a contrast backing (if using). Make up the sentiment medallions but don’t fix them to the card just yet. Pop it all in a safe place and you now have an emergency card ready to go: just attach the appropriate medallion for the occasion with some foam tape when the need arises.
A little close up:
- I’ve used the font Sexsmith Regular for the included medallions for Thank You, Get Well and Best Wishes. You could make additional Medallions in any font you choose. It’s easy – just place text in a circle.
- I’ve run distressing ink around the edges, but another alternative would be to offset the contrasting backing card slightly to make a thin border.
- Use one colour for a monochromatic scheme and use textured card for visual interest instead.
The File
Get the Silhouette Studio Cutting File here.
Hope you find this card handy. Next week’s Free File has the Valentine’s Day Theme. I’ve made up some cute Gift Tags. I hope you come back to check them out.
Thank you, Pam! Such a wonderful idea… to have these made up ahead of time, ready to be put together as needed! Maybe your beautiful files will spur me on to actually do this ahead of the need! Thank you again so very much!
Thanks Phyllis, I hope you can use the files. I actually need to make some up for myself again – as I’ve used my sample card.
I’d been planning on starting a card collection, so I wouldn’t always be rushing at the last minute. This is just what I needed to get me started. Thanks so much.
Thanks Katy, I’ve been caught short a few times needing a last minute card. I think that’s what gave me the idea.
Thanks for sharing your oh-so-pretty card file!
Thanks Marilyn. Glad you like it!
Ohhh, your card is beautiful!! What a wonderful idea for a quick card (although I’m sure it took some time to design!) – but one that still looks absolutely fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing your file. I need to add more thank you cards to my stash and will give this file a go this weekend.
I checked out your location. I figured you had to be the other side of the world from me (Canada) based on tomorrow’s date stamp on some of your comments!!
Thanks for visiting Kate and for your kind comments. Hope you get a chance to try the card. Love to see it if you do!
He He! I’m not burning the midnight oil, I’m in Australia! – I’m commenting while you are all sleeping and vice versa! 🙂
Hi again, Pam! I did get a chance to try out the file this weekend – and love the result!! I’ve got a post scheduled for Wednesday morning (although that will likely be the middle of the night Thursday morning for you!). Thank you so much for the beautiful file. It made my creating a breeze!!
Awesome Kate – I’ll be sure to check out your post. So nice to get feedback when the files are used. Can’t wait to see your version 🙂
ty!
This looks so much more complicated than it is. Perfect for the card you keep on hand. Thank you for sharing!
My pleasure Sue. You’re right – it’s not a complicated file at all. Glad you like it!
Oh my-been bouncing around the blog world and stumbled over here to your wonderful blog! I am a new follower-and yes my craftiness took a new turn when I bought my Silhouette too! Thanks for sharing your files too-very cool of you!
So glad you found my blog Sue. Thanks for following and have fun with your Silhouette.
I have been going back and forth about buying a Silhouette. I have a Cricut that I hardly ever use because I don’t have many cartridges and then there has been a lot of discussions on the internet that are mostly against buying one. Now that I see all the designs available I think I am getting the bug to buy one again. You opinions?
Thanks,
Mary
Mary, I’ve never had a Cricut so I can’t compare them to the Silhouette. But I do love my Silhouette cameo, it’s very versatile – cut all sorts of things: paper, card, vinyl and fabric (although I haven’t tried that yet) and with the software you can create your own designs – that’s the bit I love. Do I sound like a walking ad – no affiliation – i’m just a happy customer 🙂
Thanks, this looks great!
Glad you like it Kris.
Again thanks so much for these wonderful files

Merci pour le partage !J’adore votre carte
Bonne journée
Vielen Dank für diese tollen File—Gerlinde from Vienna
why doesn’t it save as svg?
Hi Wendy,
It’s not an SVG – it’s a Silhouette Studio File made for people with a Silhouette cutting Machines and it opens in the Silhouette Studio Software.
Recently I started offering my latest files with an SVG option for people who don’t have Silhouette Machines who use the Cricut or something different and I am gradually converting my older files to SVG too. I can only do this as time permits and haven’t had a chance to do this particular file yet. I’ll bump it up the queue for you 🙂
In the meantime you can see all the files that are already available as SVGs here: http://www.getsilvered.com/freebie-svg-files/
Cheers
Pam
