This month’s theme for The Silhouette Challenge is “Spring”. Here in the Southern hemisphere we’re well into Autumn, but the weather here in Perth is pretty mild – lovely sunny days – not too hot, with the occasional shower of rain thrown in……sounds just like spring really 🙂
My project for the Spring Theme is Potted Tulip Fridge magnets. I popped some bright red Tulips in the pot and printed them on to printable magnetic material. I used a File from the Silhouette store for the Tulips (credits below) but I made some adjustments to it to convert it from a regular cut file into a print and cut file. I made the Terracotta Pot file to pop the tulips in.
Steps to make a Cut file into a Print & Cut File.
Here’s a little pictorial on “how I did It” for my magnets. You can use similar steps to convert any regular cut file into a print & Cut File.
I’ve included the Terracotta Pot File too (Free download Below) and you can team it with any flower files that you have in your library!

Pam, these are so cute! I made some magnets a while back and love them. Love the detail in the tulips!
Thanks Glenna, I completely forgot that I had the Printable Magnetic Paper hidden in the cupboard.
I agree, the Tulip design is a great file isn’t it?
These turned out so well! Love them!
Thanks so much Rachel.
Pam I also bought this from Silhouette! What a great tutorial I would have never thought to make it this way. I have to admit something. I still have never tried print and cut. I need to just bite the bullet and try it some day. Love the magnet!
Thanks Michelle,
I’m really enjoying the print & Cut now. I had issues at first but luckily mine is fairly accurate now.
I’m sure you’d have lots of fun with it, especially with the cool graphics you do!
Great idea, I’m always looking for ideas for favors for club meetings and this one will go on the list of must do. Very pretty and thanks for the tutorial, I love it when people share. Hope you’ll check out my project too at http://www.katespapercreations.com/2014/04/spring-has-sprung-subway-art.html
Hi Kate,
Thanks for dropping by. Glad you like my magnets. Yes, I agree they’d be great for favors.
I’ve visited your project too and love it – so bright & cheerful. Perfect for Spring 🙂

Thanks Laurie.
Tulips are one of my favorite flowers. I love the magnet! I will have to find some printable magnet material to make my own magnets. Thanks for sharing!
These are so lovely, Pam! And thanks for the reminder that I have some magnet material I need to work with! Love how you broke down exactly how you worked with the cut file and pieced it together. A natural teacher you are! 😉 Happy spring…er…autumn! And thanks for joining in another Silhouette Challenge!
Hi! Found you on #LinknBlogs. I have never tried anything like what you have shown in this tutorial but I think I will try it! Is this considered graphic design? I’ve always been afraid to attempt that but I think your tutorial will guide me through it easily. Thanks for posting this! Very interesting!!
I really love how you converted your cut file to a print and cut file! Seriously, those magnets are pretty awesome. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities for me when it comes to working with those silhouette store shapes! Thanks, and enjoy your Autumn in Perth!
These are so neat! I had no idea I could cut magnet material with my Cameo. Thanks for sharing your step-by-step process!
