I’ve been wanting to try cutting out another 3D design since the success of the 3D Village I cut out last Christmas and this typewriter design was just the thing to try out next.
It’s not just decorative – It’s functional too as The lid lifts right off – it’s a clever design and there’s space inside to pop a few treasures.
My daughter Lauren’s Birthday was coming up, and I cut it out in a similar colour scheme to her own vintage Olivetti typewriter and used it as a gift box for some of the gifts we had for her. Well, actually that was the intention, but in reality the pressies were too big, so I put some Birthday cards in it instead!
This was my first time using an SVG cutting file. At first I thought I had to trace each part of the design but then realised that all I had to do was go into the software cut settings (scissors) and set it to “Cut” – which was much easier than messing around with the trace functions. {I have the Designer Edition Software} There’s a you tube video with the assembly instructions which was handy – I’m not sure it would have been so easy without the video though!
I used my sketch pen holder and a normal blue Biro to Sketch out the message on scrapbook paper in Courier Font. I measured the position of the paper on the cutting mat and then positioned the text boxes in the software to correspond. Luckily it worked out OK!

This is absolutely the cutest gift box I’ve ever seen!
Thanks Elaine, I was quite taken with iT 🙂
Pam this came out so great! How big was the present you put in it? Love it I may have to try another 3d box. I have only tried the Box cards.
Thanks Michelle,
I ended up buying presents that didn’t fit anyway, so I put the Birthday Cards in it instead. But the design is about 8 inches across so it’s plenty big enough for small gifts like jewellery, a diary or journal or gloves or pressies around that size. The space under the keyboard is empty even though you can’t see that in the pic.
3D projects are so much fun, I really like how you put this one together. Great job!
Thanks Kate,
Yes, I’ll be looking for a few more 3D projects myself – as I was putting it together I was in awe of the design and how it all lfit together perfectly.
This is so adorable! I can’t believe that’s all paper. Adding it to my ever-growing TO MAKE list!
Thanks Lauren, I know what you mean – my list keeps growing too! there’s so many gorgeous ideas out there. Oh to have time to do them all 🙂
I love how this came out Pam! 3-D designs made out of paper are on my list of favorite things. I love the typed message.
Thanks Kelly, I was pleased with how the message came out – turned out that regular old Courier font works great with the sketch pens 🙂
This typewriter box is amazing Pam! I love the papers you used. I’ll have to check out their files. Love it!

Thanks Glenna, They do have some good files – the 3D ones are a bit of a time investment though – but worth it! 😉
I still love it. I may love it even more because you linked up 😉 Thanks for linking up at the creative spark link party we hope that you will link up again today! http://bit.ly/1l2qbE8
Thanks (again-he, he!) Michelle. I love your link parties and I’ll be sure to link up again when I’ve got something new to show 🙂
