A few weeks ago I posted a file for a card with a cut out Border. Well, I played some more with that pattern and after replicating and rearranging it a bit more I created these three overlay designs.
I like doing overlays as they are so versatile – they can be used on Cards, Gift wrap, Scrapbook Pages, or as stencils for etching or painting.
I’m showing my samples on some packages. They’re perfect to jazz up some plain gift wrap.
Here’s the Rectangle overlay – I stretched it out lengthways a little to fit my parcel
…and the thin version – Maybe it’d make a good bookmark too! It’s accompanied in this pic with the Daisy – you can get the Spring Daisy file here
….and finally the Square. For something different I only made half of the design a cut out. It leaves a space for another embellishment, maybe a ribbon or bow or sentiment. Might make a great gift tag too.
Hope you can find a use for these overlays.

please can you help me as i need help on sending a patten to be cut but have no idea how to
thank you patricia
Pam says
Hi Patricia,
The files are for the Silhouette software and I’m assuming you have a Silhouette Machine. Connect your computer to the cutting machine, then open the file in the Studio Software, Have a look at the top right of the screen. Click on the second icon in from the right that looks like a blade – select the material you are using and have loaded onto the mat and in the machine (eg: card /vinyl etc etc) Set your blade to match the setting.
Then click on the icon at the top right that looks like a machine. Select start and the machine should do the rest.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Pam

This is a lovely design. Do any with cutting experience have any tips on how to achieve a clean cut that will release from the mat without tearing?
Pam says
Thanks Carolyn! Others may have suggestions but here’s mine. I de-sticky a new mat a little before I use it using by putting it against some fabric. Preferable something that isn’t too fibrous as the fibres will stick to the mat. I use a fabric scrap that is like linen. Denim or cotton would be Ok too – just not something that sheds!
The other tip I’ll give is to bend/peel the mat backwards away from the card stock or vinyl etc when the cutting is finished. I find if I pull the card or paper etc off the mat instead, that’s when I get rips and tears.
Hope this helps a little.
Hope this helps!
