Gotta love little Birds on a Branch and I hope you’ll love this file as much as I do. This week there’s three files in one!
The Options
- First option is a Silhouette view of two birds on a branch. I can envisage this one as a vinyl wall decal or adorning on a wooden plaque or board. You could even use it as a stencil to paint the board. Alternatively, I can imagine it cut from HTV decorating a T shirt, Bib, or Tote Bag or Tea towel.
- Next up is a square overlay. Cut from Card stock or Vinyl – Great to decorate a card or gift wrap or maybe use as a decal to decorate a glass jar or candle holder, which is what I intend to do as soon as I get hold of some more frosted vinyl.
- The third version is a greeting card, which is pretty self explanatory 🙂 Here’s my sample card.
If you download the cutting file you may notice a mystery piece and wonder what it’s for. When I made the card I printed the graduated sunrise coloured backing piece on white card stock but after assembly, when the card was opened I didn’t like the white backing against the black interior. I preferred a uniform interior colour, so I added an extra black piece to line the inside of the card and cover up the white backing. I’m funny like that!
Credit where Credit’s Due.
My file is adapted from an image originally published in an 1880’s Antique Printer’s Book and shared by the Graphics Fairy. I’m sure many of you are familiar with The Graphics Fairy – It’s a wonderful resource for Crafters and Karen generously shares many, many vintage and antique images, most of which are in the public domain.
The Birds on a Branch image I used is here. You can see my first cutting option is very similar – It was pretty much a trace from the image which I then simplified a little by taking out some of the leaf and branch details.
To make the card and overlay versions on the cutting file, I added a frame, moved elements around and drew in a little banner, although it has been mistaken for sun rays too….I guess it can be whatever you’d like it to be 😉

Thank you a lovely card , but I go the other way and put white in so you can write on it easily
Pam says
Ha Ha that didn’t even occur to me Diane. Very good idea though 🙂
I have a silver gel pen which I use to write on dark coloured card stock which is pretty handy.
