It was my Birthday earlier in the month and the family spoiled me with all the pressies on my wish list. There’s no need to guess – my list was full of craft supplies.
Top of the list was a laminator and some hot foil, so I was pretty chuffed to get both.
I’ve already experimented with regular craft foil here and here using it with double sided tape and sticker paper. I’ve also tried the Silhouette Printable foil in this project which I loved, but using the hot foil with the laminator opens up a whole new different set of possibilities – like the foiled greeting cards here.
I plan to do a more detailed “how I did it” in a later post but here’s a quick overview for now……
Pretty much, you print out a design in black ink using a laser printer {this wasn’t on my wish list as we have one already!} then cover the design with the foil and run it through the pre heated laminator protected by a carrier sheet. The foil sticks to the printer toner and when the foil is peeled back it reveals the design in the beautiful metallic finish. Super quick and easy!
Options
- I wanted to use my new toys so I decorated my cards with the hot foil. However, I know many people don’t have a Laminator lying around the house so I’ve made the file into a regular print and cut file too. I’ve coloured it as a multi colour design but if you want to change the colours, the letters can be un-grouped and filled in with other colours of your choice.
- The top picture is for a Birthday card, but here in Australia it’s Father’s Day on the 6th September, so I’ve made a Father’s Day version to put on a card for my Dad. Both are included in the file.
