It’s the monthly Silhouette Challenge time again and this time the subject was Garland with an optional theme of Halloween.
I’ve made this Card Stock Wall Garland with these not too scary spiders hanging down.
This one is quite versatile as you can make just the mini garland to pop on a small space or join a few together to fit a larger wall space or door etc. It would work pretty well cut from Vinyl too I think!
How I did it
- First cut as many garland shapes as you need to fill your space. Overlap the right end circle of one garland to the left circle of another to join them together and secure with glue or Double sided tape.
- Cut as many spiders as you’d like. The free cut file link is below and you can choose from the spiders that spell out the word “Boo” or just cut plain spiders.
- Cut out more plain spiders in a contrast colour to attach to the back and so the colour peeks through the letters OR do as I did and tape a few contrast scraps to the back of the spider to show through instead. It’s not pretty on the back, but it did the job and used up a few scraps!
- I attached my garland to the wall with blu tack and also positioned the spiders and secured them with blu tack. My goal was quick and easy, however for a more traditional garland look, tape thread on the back of the spiders running it to the garland and again tape to secure on the back. This would allow the spiders to swing freely.
The Files
In case you are wondering I adapted the letters “BOO” from the Curely font to make the letters Stencil Style and also simplify it a bit.

This is very cute–and I don’t normally like spiders at all! 🙂 Thank you for the free cut file also!
Ha Ha! I hear you Brittany – I’m not keen on spiders either, at least not the real thing! These I can handle though 😉
These are great spiders—just the right amount of creepy—and the swag+dot is very festive. I love how you made the garland expandable without visible seams. Great addition to Halloween decor.
Thanks Eff. You saying the swag part is festive has given me the idea to use that file for other occasions in other colours …like for Christmas! That didn’t really occur to me until I read your comment – so Thanks 🙂
I really like the layered combination of the letters with the spiders. It’s a really cute effect! Spiders give me the heebie-jeebies, but I could probably handle a couple of these in my house 😉
Thanks Emily, Yes, i agree! – I don’t mind these one though – it’s the big one’s that I find in the Garden(or even worse, in the house) that freak me out!
I love the letters on the spiders! Very cute!
Thanks Jessica. Yes, I thought the spiders needed a little extra!
So cute, and not too scary at all!
Thanks so much Valerie.
