Do you spend way too much time on Facebook. Well this post isn’t going to help you reduce that at all! In fact it may cause you to spend even more time there…oops.
Today I wanted to talk about Facebook Groups. Group pages on Facebook allow people to join an online community Group to interact with others who have common interests.
You may already be a member of some Facebook Groups or may even have started a group your own. In the Paper craft, Vinyl and Cutting Machine world there are many groups that are geared for Silhouette and Cutting machine users. I thought I’d make a list of the one’s that I know of or am a member of.
Each group may have a different goal depending on who set the group up and their intended purpose for the group. Some are to share help, others share inspiration, others share resources – some are more social, and some do it all! Each Group usually has a description on the page {that can be read before joining}, of what the group is all about and what is and isn’t acceptable or allowed within the group, so be sure to read that to see if the Group is a good fit for you. When added into the group be sure to read through any Group rules too before participating.
How actively involved you become is up to you. You could comment and interact or choose to observe and read. If you find out later a group is not a good fit for you, it’s very easy to leave the group with the click of a button.
Some groups are public however with most of them: you apply to join and wait to be added/accepted.
Here’s some of the Cutting Machine Groups I know of. I’m not a member of every one of these groups, so can’t comment on how active/busy/friendly/helpful they all are.

- Fun with SVGs for Cricut & Silhouette Can anyone really have too many SVGs? I think not. Lets Have Fun With SVGs together.
- Cricut, Silhouette, Scan’nCut Groupies For all of those cutting machines.
Ok, so you joined some of these great groups…. and suddenly your Facebook Newsfeed is awash with conversations about Silhouettes and cut files …aargh! If you’ve joined a busy group and the messages are too much for you it’s easy to change the settings – Pop over to the Group’s Page. Just Under the Group Banner Click the “notification” tab. You can turn off or change the notifications settings. Then click on The Tab that says “joined” If you don’t want the messages in your Newsfeed Click on “unfollow” and the messages won’t appear in your Newsfeed.
You can still keep up with all the Group goings-on by visiting the page as frequently as you like. A link to all the groups you are a member of, is on the left hand column of your Newsfeed Page.
If you’re a member of a great Cutting Machine Group that I haven’t listed, let me know and I’ll add it to the list.

Pam I just don’t know how to navigate the social media world, but would like to start a local group of ladies with cutting machines to share tips with. Can u tell me how to start? Thanks for ur list. I live in Bentonville ar. I ask our jo Ann and hobby lobby stores about putting up a flyer and they said “no”. Thanks cindy

Hi Cindy,
Shame about JoAnn and hobby lobby’s reaction. Is there anywhere else you could put up a flyer? Say the Local community hall or something similar that runs craft classes – maybe they’d put up a flyer. Here in Australia, in local shopping centres they often have community notice boards. Not sure if they have that in your area though.
Short of paying for a small ad in a local paper I’m not sure what else to suggest – I’ve never tried to start up a community interest group. Sorry I couldn’t be more help. Good luck!
